The School District of Holmen (District) implemented a “green” approach for distributing flyers from community organizations, and has discontinued the process of sending paper flyers in students' backpacks, unless they are school related. For your convenience, the flyers are divided on the left hand side into three categories, based on grade levels (Pre-Kindergarten/Elementary, Middle, and High).

Have you received an Attendance Letter?
What are Attendance Letters?
  • Regular attendance at school is extremely important for your child. Your student’s attendance record is one of the most frequently used parts of a school record because it shows your students habits/patterns.
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule doctor and dental appointments outside school hours when possible, or provide a medical note excusing the student from school if an appointment is scheduled during the school day.
  • Please help your child understand the importance of regular attendance at school. You may receive “Attendance Letters” in the mail notating the number of absences your child has, this is so together we can maintain an accurate record.  If you receive a letter and have any questions please feel free to call the front office 608with attendance.

NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL!

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRAIRIE VIEW

STUDENTS, STAFF, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY!

Prairie View Elementary has been named a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School. Prairie View is one of eight elementary schools in Wisconsin to receive Blue Ribbon recognition this year.  National Blue Ribbon Schools are public and private schools who have exhibited outstanding results for all students. They have demonstrated a commitment to high achievement or closing achievement gaps. The National Blue Ribbon Schools program is an effort on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education to identify and honor high achieving schools committed to high leverage teaching and learning.

I personally want to thank all of you for your continuous support of our school. I truly believe that it does "take a village to guide our students." Today, we had a special assembly to recognize students and staff for their awesome accomplishment. There was certainly lots of positive energy in the building. All students will be coming home with a Blue Ribbon t-shirt.  When I talked with students, I did not focus on the state accountability score; rather, we focused on all their hard work and commitment to learning new things. The message fits with our school motto this year of "progress over perfection." Receiving this recognition is a testament to the commitment from you, our caregivers, our staff, and our students. Rest assured, we will stay committed to getting better and continuously reflecting on how we educate and inspire students.

Keep an eye out on our social media pages for LOTS of photos from our celebration!

U.S. Department of Education Announces 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 297 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Secretary Cardona made the announcement during his Road to Success Back to School bus tour.

“I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives.”

With its 39th cohort, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for – and attaining – exemplary achievement.

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

The Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:

·       Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

·       Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.

Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. The Department invites nominations for the National Blue Ribbon Schools award from the top education official in all states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education. Private schools are nominated by the Council for American Private Education.
